| Ucluelet First Nation (UFN) has recently engaged in British Columbia’s forest sector. In March 2004, UFN ratified a Forest and Range Agreement (FRA) with British Columbia. This agreement offers a 91,000m3 non-replaceable Forestry License to Cut (FLTC) to UFN over a five year term. |

Following the signing of the FRA, UFN retained the services of a Forestry Advisor, who was responsible for implementing all UFN forestry initiatives and managing resource related developments within UFN Traditional Territory.
Consultation Policy
In March 2005 UFN developed a Resource Development Consultation Policy to define UFN’s consultation protocol. This process defines UFN’s consultation requirements and provides government agencies and resource developers with a clear outline of how UFN administers proposed development referrals. All governmental agencies and resource developers are encouraged to download and adhere to this Policy.

UFN Land Use Plan
UFN is currently developing a Land Use Plan (LUP) to guide resource management and proposed development activities within UFN Traditional Territory. The aim of this LUP is to develop environmentally and socially appropriate management regimes throughout UFN Traditional Territory while respecting traditional and contemporary uses of the lands and resources. Further, the UFN LUP will aim to preserve cultural heritage sites and features of significant to UFN while establishing a platform of sustainable development thresholds consistent with UFN principles.
