The Ucluelet First Nation will respect its natural resources and land base and ensure that sound environmental stewardship continues as a key factor in every land use decision. We will demonstrate our respect for the environment through land reclamation, water management and recycling programs.

The Ucluelet First Nation will provide safe and comfortable housing for members based on detailed and relevant community development plan. Community pride will be seen in the appearance of a variety of housing options. Our community buildings will host a wide variety of ceremonies, celebrations and sports events and become a gathering place for members of all ages.

We will value education to develop important life skills and further our economic independence. Our school will have an extensive cultural and language program where elders work with our youth to ensure strong ties with our past. All adults will share in the responsibility of providing a supportive learning environment in the community. Full financial support for post-secondary education will be available in academic, technical or vocational programs. Recognition of personal educational achievements will be celebrated as a community.

Chief and Council will demonstrate leadership and professionalism in all aspects of governance and communicate with openness and inclusion to ensure effective two-way dialogue between members and council. All members will be actively encouraged to attend meetings and discuss policy decisions. Chief and Council will use the most appropriate means available to communicate with members and the world at large.

Key management decisions will support the priorities set forth in our business plan and all members of council will be accountable for the success of that plan. Our policies will be complete, relevant, consistently and fairly administered and will be fully supported by the community.

We will maintain effective relationships with our neighbours and the world at large and continue to welcome visitors who wish to learn more about our success. We will actively seek best practices from other governments and communities and apply them whenever appropriate.

We will live in a community that actively cares for the well being of all members and promotes health lifestyles. We will ensure that our members have support in overcoming drug or alcohol dependency and ensure that our young people have strong, positive role models to help them make good lifestyle decisions.

We will achieve effective government-to-government relationships as we continue to develop our capacity to effectively manage our community affairs and to provide a promising future for our next generations.
The Ucluelet First Nation will continue to engage in diversified economic development projects that provide job opportunities for our members and maximize the use of our available resources. We will maintain control of our businesses and ensure that they support our community values and priorities. Each business opportunity will be presented to the community for discussion and to ensure that costs and revenues are acceptable to the membership.
