The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides strategic financial leadership and expert advice to the Executive and Legislature, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. The CFO is responsible for leading the finance department and managing all financial aspects of the organization, including ensuring robust financial governance, maintaining high standards of financial management, and contributing to the overall success and sustainability of the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government. Key responsibilities include overseeing the development and execution of budgets, financial forecasting, and strategic planning. The CFO also manages daily financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with legislative requirements, and transparency in financial practices. Additionally, as a collaborative and results-focused leader, the CFO leads and develops the finance team, enhancing departmental functions and fostering professional growth.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a candidate with at least a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, who is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), and has 6-8 years of post-designation accounting and financial experience, including 2-3 years at the senior financial management level. You should have the ability to provide strategic financial analysis and policy advice to the Executive and demonstrate excellent interpersonal and people management skills. The ideal candidate is a collaborative and effective leader with strong cultural competence. Experience within a First Nations administration or a modern treaty self-governing First Nation is ideal. Audit experience is an asset.

Successful passing of background checks including criminal and credit checks are required, as is possession of a valid BC Driver’s License for occasional work-related travel

Offering

The role offers a competitive salary range and a comprehensive benefits package including generous medical benefits and a Registered Pension Plan. Relocation assistance will be provided if required.

This position is located in the stunning area of Ucluelet, British Columbia, where rugged beauty meets the endless Pacific Ocean.

Salary range: $105,000 to $145,000
