The Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government is a member of the Maa-nulth Treaty Society and, through the Maa- nulth First Nations Final Agreement, is a modern treaty Nation operating with a government-to- government relationship with Canada and the province of British Columbia. Position Summary

The Community Health Nurse (RN) practices in partnership with clients, families, the community, and social and healthcare partners. Utilizes a community focused approach, ensuring the delivery of client centered care to achieve and maintain maximum health through the promotion, maintenance and restoration of health and prevention, treatment and palliation of illness and injury, assessment of health status, planning and implementation of interventions and coordination of health services.

Qualifications

Training, Education and Experience
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Specialized Nursing courses from a recognized program.
  • Current RN licensed and member in good standing with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Familiarity with Panorama and electronic medical charting system.
  • Recent experience working with children, youth, and families.
  • Successful completion of (or willing to complete) the BCCDC Immunization Competency Course for Registered Nurses.
  • Current certification (or willing to complete) the FNHA Immunization Competency Program.
  • Nurse Practitioners are welcome to apply and will be compensated accordingly.
  • Basic life support for healthcare providers.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ relevant Nursing experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of health and wellness programs.
  • You will possess excellent communication and organizational skills, proficiency with computers, and maintain accurate records, document and reports. Previous experience with electronic charting systems (EMR) an asset.
  • Current Criminal Records Check.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Provides health promotion, disease prevention, education, assessment, counselling and consultation to individuals, groups, and communities.
  • Establishes and maintains community partnerships to help address health issues, reduce the incidence of disease and enhance the health of individuals, families, groups and populations.
  • Demonstrates understanding of health promotion, epidemiology, disease and injury, population health, community development and determinants of health.
  • Demonstrates ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments and provide nursing care through evidence-informed practice.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal, written and electronic communication to facilitate inter-professional collaborative practice, health environments and a respectful workplace for clients, staff and community partners.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage time and resources effectively.
  • Demonstrates ability to apply knowledge of care planning and care coordination, including knowledge of community programs and services.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of community health practice, chronic disease management, elder care and palliative nursing practice within a client-centred approach.
  • Demonstrates reflective practice and an ability to develop and implement own learning goals for continuing professional development.
  • Informs, applies and integrates research and evidence-informed best practice related to nursing and health related disciplines into professional practice.
  • Demonstrates ability to operate related equipment and technology including relevant computer applications.
  • Experience in working with First Nation communities, together with a sound understanding of Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ culture.
  • An appreciation of cultural norms, and respect for Nuu-chah-nulth culture, traditions, and language
  • Strong awareness of the impacts resulting from colonization, assimilation, the historic relationship between Aboriginal communities and provincial/federal governments, and the legacy of intergenerational trauma.
  • Well-developed interpersonal communication skills, able to work well with groups, and motivate and empower individuals, families, and the community to optimize health and wellness.
