Director of Youth and Education
The Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government is a member of the Maa-nulth Treaty Society and, through the Maa-nulth First Nations Final Agreement, is a modern treaty Nation operating with a government-to-government relationship with Canada and the province of British Columbia. As a Self-Governing Indigenous Government, the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government continues to promote education and community programs that enhance Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ identity.
Position Summary
The Director of Youth and Education will lead the YG Youth and Education Department, dedicated to supporting YG learners from infancy through post-secondary education. This role is pivotal in ensuring equitable education, fostering cultural identity, and empowering YG learners by addressing their unique educational needs and aspirations at every stage. The Director will oversee the implementation of culturally responsive programming, advocate for inclusive policies, and facilitate partnerships to bridge educational gaps and promote holistic well-being within the community.
Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government policies, standards, practices and procedures, as directed by the Director of Operations. Primary responsibilities include:

- Elementary and Secondary Education

- Collaboration with Department of Culture, Language and Heritage
- Outreach and Community Engagement
- Collaboration and Partnerships
- Holistic Well-Being and Community Empowerment
Qualifications
Training, Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Indigenous Studies, Public Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Extensive experience in Indigenous educational leadership, including policy development, advocacy, and program management at a provincial or intergovernmental level.
- Proven ability to navigate provincial government frameworks, policies, and funding mechanisms to support educational initiatives.
- Strong understanding of Indigenous education issues, cultural sensitivity, and the integration of First Nations’ traditions (preference for YG’s or Nuu-chah-nulth traditions) within policy and program development.
- Demonstrated success in fostering partnerships with provincial government agencies and other stakeholders to advance education and cultural revitalization.
- Current Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence and access to vehicle.
- Satisfactory criminal records check.

- Ability to exercise a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Able to work independently with minimal day-to-day supervision as well as working within a collaborative team framework.
- Intermediate computer skills including MS Office.
- Genuine respect for Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ traditions, culture and protocols.
