The Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government is a member of the Maa-nulth Treaty Society and, through the Maa-nulth First Nations Final Agreement, is a modern treaty Nation operating with a government-to-government relationship with Canada and the province of British Columbia. As a Self-Governing Indigenous Government, the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government continues to promote education and community programs that enhance Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ identity.

Position Summary

This key role involves supporting the community in areas such as land use planning, sustainable development, consultation, and engagement. The ICP will focus on optimizing the use of land resources through strategic planning, impact assessment, and collaboration with technical experts, ensuring alignment with Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government laws, policies, and procedures. Key responsibilities include cross-departmental coordination for implementing land use plans, zoning, permitting, leasing, and licensing processes, and leading the development of an updated Official Community Plan.

Qualifications

Training, Education and Experience
  • Graduate degree in Indigenous Urban, Community, or Regional Planning or an equivalent discipline related to planning.
  • Certified Registered Professional Planner (RPP) with the Planning Institute of BC or equivalent affiliate.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience working with Indigenous communities in community planning. Knowledge of relevant planning and legislative frameworks (Indigenous, municipal, provincial, federal) and planning principles and techniques.
  • Effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills – must be proficient in report and plan writing and able to prepare high-quality deliverables.
  • Current Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.
  • Satisfactory criminal records check.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Well-developed knowledge of planning principles and practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of one or more specializations, such as economic development, land-use, community plan, consultation, First Nation, transportation planning, or environmental planning.
  • First-hand knowledge and experience of Modern Treaty Nations and cultural history is a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of principles, methodology, practices of community engagement, research, and data collection.
  • Knowledge of or experience in community remediation and redevelopment, and knowledge of relevant Provincial programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet applications, econometric or transportation modeling, database management, AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, GIS, or mapping software.
  • Able to work independently with minimal daily supervision and within a collaborative team framework.
  • Genuine respect for Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ traditions, culture, and protocols.
